Imbalanced Load
This photo shows a 47-ton (94,000-pound / 42,000-kg) crane girder that has a control cab at one end. Some of the pieces had asymmetrically placed walkways and equipment that resulted in loads that were heavier on one side or at one end. Each piece was centered over the lifting beams before being tied down, and the turntable could be moved from side to side by some horizontal hydraulic cylinders mounted on the main support beams, enabling the centre of gravity to be positioned for maximum stability. |
